Standards Compliance

All pages here are written to the XHTML 1.0 Transitional standard, use Cascading Style Sheets for presentation and aim to meet the 'AA' conformance level of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. This means that the FSG website can be viewed in all modern browsers, regardless of platform or device.

Some older browsers (e.g. Internet Explorer 4 and Netscape 4) do not comply with these web standards. A minority of our visitors still use these browsers and, as a result, will not experience the site as we have intended. They will be able to read the pages and navigate the site, but the site will look basic in comparison. In this case, we strongly advise upgrading to a more modern browser.

Bobby WorldWide Approved AAA
This site has also been passed by Watchfire's Bobby program, earning the maximum triple A rating. Bobby is a comprehensive web accessibility software tool designed to help expose and repair barriers to accessibility and encourage compliance with existing accessibility guidelines. Bobby tests for compliance with government standards, and offers prioritized suggestions based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines provided by the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) Web Access Initiative.

Text size
If you find that the text is too small for you to read, you can change it to a size that you are more comfortable with using the type size function at the head of the page. If that fails to work, or the type size is still not right, you can change it through the browser:
• in Internet Explorer (PC), use the View, Text Size menu
• in Netscape 6 or 7 and Internet Explorer (Mac), use the View, Text Zoom menu

Colours
As well as the colour version of the site, we have provided a black on white version for visually impaired users who may find it easier to read. This mono version is also useful if you wish to print out any of the pages.

Access keys
Most web browsers support shortcuts called access keys that you can use to jump to specific areas of the site. If your browser supports them, press ALT + key (Windows) or CTRL + key (Macintosh) and then (in the case of links) Enter to use.

Cookies
In order for the type switcher to function effectively, we will need to place a cookie on your computer, but that is its sole purpose. It does not collect any personal information or tell us anything about you or your browsing habits.
